Elcy L. Altoft, age 94, of Perry, NY, passed away on Friday January 19, 2018 at Eastside Nursing home in Warsaw where she was residing.
Elcy was born in Hornell, NY on March 9, 1923 a daughter to the late George Wesley and Marion Elcy (Swain) Luce.
She was a graduate of Perry High School.
She was a homemaker who worked during World War II giving out ration stamps, she worked at the former Robeson Cutlery, was a clerk at the former Perry Center Grocery store for 12 years and 10 years at the former Archway Cookies, was involved in a CO-OP in Wyoming for many years and helped cater many events throughout the years.
She was a 75 year member at the LaGrange Baptist church, where she was involved in the Ladies Missionary group, her late husband and her were custodians at the church for many years. A 80 year member of the Grange, where she was past master at the local level, Master at the Pomona Grange and enjoyed attending many State Grange conventions, a member of the Wyoming County Home Bureau, Wyoming Historical Pioneer Association, Covington Historical Association and the Wyoming County Fair Association. Former President of the Perry Senior Citizens Group, and former secretary for the LaGrange Cemetery Association.
She enjoyed crocheting afghans and rugs for her family and made numerous blankets and hats for premature babies at Strong Memorial Hospital through the Ladies Missionary group at the church. She also enjoyed gardening, baking, canning, traveling, camping and watching NASCAR races.
She is survived by 3 daughters: Judy (Siegfried) Thewke , Gloria Altoft, Mary Jane (Richard) Halstead all of Perry, 2 sons: James (Kyle Wixson) Altoft of Zephyrhills, Fl. William (Jill) Altoft of Pittsburgh, Pa., 16 grandchildren: Erik Thewke, Heidi (Dennis) Shields, Bradford Altoft, Greta (Jason) Barnett, Nathan (Nikki) Noniewicz, David Noniewicz, Sean Lafferty, Rachel Lafferty, Adam (Vanessa) Halstead, Thomas Halstead, Valerie (Jeffrey) Dillon, Jacob (Elizabeth) Altoft, Andrew Altoft, Christopher (Emily) Kirkham, Patrick (Andrea) Kirkham, Scott (Amy) Kirkham, 23 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, sister-in-law: Loralyn (Robert) Yunker of Perry, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband: Robert who passed away in 1987, brother Horace Luce, son-in-law: David Noniewicz, great grandson: Lucas Dillon, sister-in-law: Margaret Luce
Family and friends may call from 4pm-7pm on Wednesday January 24th at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, LLC. 98 N. Main St. in Perry where services will follow at 7pm.
She will be laid to rest in LaGrange Cemetery in Perry.
