Emilia Czyryca, age 100, of Perry NY passed away on Thursday May 14,
2020 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.
She was born in Mogilno, Poland on January 16, 1920, a daughter to the late
Marcin and Zofia (Skowron) Dwojak.
She grew up on a small Farm in Mogilno with Siblings in order of age:
Kasia, Janek, Julia, Wladek, Hanka, Janek, Viktor, (herself), Piotr, Helena.
(Kasia and 1st Janek died at birth or as an infants)
Her Father died when she was 11. Later that year the oldest Brother decided
that they couldn’t afford to keep her on the Farm so she was put to work as a
servant on a remote Farm. She was allowed to visit home for a few hours
once every couple months. There She would work 16 hour days.
At 14 She went to work at a larger Farm that had better conditions.
At 21 (1941) German Authorities took Her to the Work Camps in
Saarbrucken Germany for the War effort where Her job was to build caskets
and after the Battles go out and fill them. Her co-workers were: Maria
Gembalik, Stanislawa Kulik and 3 Belgian men Ulian, Scar and Alex.
She would do this for the remainder of World War II.
When the War ended She spent 3 more years in the Refugee camps where
She met and eventually married Wladyslaw(or Walter) Czyryca on the 6th of
March 1946. In November 1948 my older Sister Wanda was born in Ober
Lahnstein Germany.
After some correspondence with half-sister Anna Blazek in the U.S. She,
Walter and Wanda departed from the port in Deiz Germany on a Naval
transport ship the USNS General Harry Taylor to New York City then to
Anna’s house at 5250 Silver Springs Road (or Route 19a) Silver Springs,
New York. Where they spent their first year in the United States.
Walter soon got employment at the Perry Knitting Mill and soon after did
Emilia. In approximately a year they moved to Perry and eventually bought
a House on 11 Fruit Street where She lived the remainder of her life.
They had three more children. Walter passed away in 1958.
Emilia worked many years at the Perry Knitting Mill and was a housekeeper
and cleaner for the former St. Stanislaus Church and rectory and St. Joseph’s
Church in Perry.
She was an active member of St. Isidore’s Catholic Parish in Perry where
she was a Eucharistic Minister, part of the Legion of Mary and The Women
of the Church. She enjoyed taking care of the church gardens and decorating
the church for the holidays and feast days.
Emilia was a Wizard at knitting and sewing, often times local clothing stores
would call upon her to do alterations for them. She enjoyed going to bingo
and working around her home
Her Family and Catholic faith were very important to her. She had a binding
affection with all the people She worked with in the Church working to bring
people closer to God.
Emilia nourished her Catholic faith through the Holy Eucharist which is
where she drew Her strength throughout Her entire Life. She offered prayers
for friends and family or anyone else in need. Her sacrificial love was
evident to all those who knew Her.
She is survived by her 3 children: Wanda (Thierry) Maison of Franklin,
