Karen L. Nugent, age 75, of Houghton, NY passed away on Friday July 31, 2020 at her home.
She was born in Rochester, NY on May 2, 1945 a daughter to the late Edwin S. and Elizabeth Mae Thomas (Elmer Rajski) Uetz.
She was a 1963 graduate (1st graduating class) of R.L. Thomas High School in Webster, NY.
Karen worked for Kodak, Hegedorn’s Market in Webster, 104 Gasteria in Ontario, a leads saleswomen for Tupperware in Williamson, a private housekeeper in Perry, WJCW radio station in Warsaw, former owner/operator of Keith’s Citgo in Portageville, 4 Winds Campground in Portageville and Perry Speedway/ Wyoming County International Speedway in Perry.
Karen enjoyed crocheting, knitting, doing crossword puzzles, going to the casinos, lifelong racing fan (having 4 generations of race car drivers in her family) and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. She was a former youth softball coach and girl scout leader in Perry, a member of the Genesee Falls Ladies Auxiliary, chairperson for the Genesee Falls Bicentennial, co-chair for the Portageville Potato Festival, and for over 20 years was a “runway model” at the Superintendant conventions.
She is survived by her husband: Lawrence G. Nugent whom she married on August 3, 1963, 3 daughters: Hope (Todd) Wood of Warsaw, Pamela (Lyman) Granger Jr. of Pike, Heather (Danny) McClurg of Warsaw, 2 sons: Keith (Eileen) Nugent of Portageville, Chad (Jennifer) Nugent of Fillmore, a sister: Barbara Yeager of Baldwinsville, 3 brothers: David (Mary) Uetz of Branchport, Darrell (Mary Beth) Uetz of Fairhaven, Robert (Linda Knight) Uetz of Rochester, 10 grandchildren: Christopher (Miranda) Wood, Ryan (Courtney) Nugent, Patrick (Larissa Newland) Wood, Madison (Paul Doyle) McClurg, Jacob Granger, Evan Nugent, Sydney Granger, Makayla McClurg, Elizabeth Nugent and Mason McClurg, 3 great grandchildren: Gunnar , Maddox and Maverick Wood, along with many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her Uncle Dr. James Thomas.
Family and friends may call from 3-6pm on Friday August 7th at the Eaton-Watson Funeral home, LLC. 98 North Main St. in Perry where funeral services will follow at 6pm.
