Laura Jane Ireland

Laura Jane Ireland, 96, of Perry passed away peacefully on Friday, February 23, 2024. She was surrounded by family and her devoted caregivers. She was born August 9th, 1927 at St. Jerome’s, Batavia, to George and Bertha Cole of Perry. As a teenager, Laura was proud to have worked in the family shoe store, " A. Cole & Sons.”  She was a graduate of RBI and worked in the office of the Perry Knitting Mill until she married Frank J. Ireland in 1951.

She and “Bud” celebrated 67 years together until his passing in 2016. Laura and Bud resided in the Ireland Family Homestead for over 50 years. Laura had to learn quickly the duties of a farmer’s wife. She mastered pie baking from scratch, with sour cherry and apple to go along with her delicious roast beef dinners, including Yorkshire pudding. She and Frank did have a few getaways, including Alaska and Hawaii. They also enjoyed snowmobiling.

Knitting was Laura’s passion, making baby sweaters, afghan blankets, scarves and mittens. Her favorite was mittens she generously donated to kindergarten kids for over 12 years. Laura’s favorite color was red and she loved her red shoes.

Along with her husband Frank, Laura was predeceased by her brother Thomas Cole of Nunda. She is survived by her daughters, Regina (Andrew Zinkievich) Ireland, Sally (Yolanda Montemayor) Ireland, Mary Jane Ireland and Cindy (Will) Stowell. Two grandsons, Brett Eliasz (Andrea) and Blake Eliasz (fiancé Hope McGlory), granddaughter, Emma Jane Darocha and great grandson Giancarlo Eliasz.

Graveside service will be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Perry Center for the immediate family.
