Anna Leitner

Anna "Ann" Leitner, age 92, of Perry, formerly of Bennington, passed away peacefully on Friday July 31, 2026 at her home in Perry.

She was born in Giebing, Germany on April 5, 1934, daughter to the late Matthaus and Anna (Thanner) Auanger. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, brother Arnold Auanger, and other family and friends who she missed deeply.

Ann moved to the United States in 1954 and lived in Buffalo with a family whom she worked for as a house keeper and nanny. She also attended night school to learn the English language and culture. She met the love of her life, Paul Leitner, at a dance and they were married in 1958. They raised their family on a dairy farm in Bennington until 1986. Ann and her late husband owned and operated Attica Video for many years prior to their retirement. She volunteered for the election board during voting season. Ann enjoyed cooking and baking. She passed on many German recipes to her loved ones. She enjoyed many types of crafting including sewing, quilting, and oil painting. She would often be seen at many local craft fairs selling her wares. She raised miniature poodles for years, and encouraged her children to join 4H for dog obedience, going on to state championships.

Ann and her husband loved the family property in Bennington, sitting and feeding the koi, hosting family picnics and camping at the pond. She had a green thumb, and could often be found in her flowerbeds, vegetable garden, or in the sunroom full of house plants. Ann was known to many as a very kind and sweet lady; she would always put others before herself. She was very empathetic, and found joy in helping others.

Ann is survived by a daughter: Karen (Paul) Mayer of Perry, 2 sons: Peter (Jeanne) Leitner of Raleigh, NC, Rudolf Leitner of Snow Camp, NC, 4 grandchildren: Justin Leitner (Taylor Bragg), Jenna Leitner, Cami Mayer, and Gregory Mayer, along with her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
