Chester F. Walek, age 93 of Perry, passed away on Saturday May 30, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving and caring family.

He was born on November 5,1932 in Perry, New York to the late
Felix and Stella (Cygan) Walek.

Chet was a 1950 graduate of Perry Central High School and New York State Ranger School in Wanakena, New York.

He served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954.

Chet, as a teenager started working for the Perry Bowling Center setting pins, later for the Perry Knitting Mill and started his career in Surveying at Gillen and Wellman Surveying, Cayuga Rock Salt, Frasier Consultants and finished his career at Letchworth State Park (Genesee Park Region) working there for almost 30 years. During his career in surveying, he also owned and operated Walek Land Surveying out of his home.

Chet regularly attended the First United Methodist Church in Perry, where he sang in the church choir. His love of singing got him involved with the Warsaw Barbershop Chorus. He was a former Scout leader for Troop #45. He was an avid bowler, archer and golfer. He enjoyed times spent with his friends over a cup of coffee and loved being surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years: Shirley "Jean" (Schofield) Walek whom he married on June 4th, 1955, children: Terry (John) Shumway of Myrtle Beach, SC, Mark (Sandy) Walek of Lewisville, NC, Diane Walek of Perry, Valerie (Eric) Kelly of Perry, 7 grandchildren: Kati (Josh) Van Ness, Jessica (Jeff) Smith, Daryl (Elon Craig) Walek, Rene (Chris) Shepard, Richie Cuozzo III, Liam Kelly and Elise (Brody) Wood, great grandchildren: Paityn and Paxton Smith, Zelda and Theodore Shepard and Torry Cuozzo, sister-in-law: Pat Schofield of Perry, brother and sister-in-law: Bill (Irene) Schofield, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his twin brother: Carl Walek, sister: Rosalie Walek, son-in-law: Rodney DeMun, mother and father-in-law: Charles (Ruth) Schofield, brother-in-law: Robert Schofield, brother and sister-in-law: Rich (Betty) Pedersen.

Family and friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8pm on Tuesday June 2nd at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home 98 North Main St. in Perry.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 3rd at 11:00 am at the funeral home.

Chet will be laid to rest with honors in Glenwood Cemetery in Perry.
