Clair A. “Dub” Swyers, age 95, of Castile, NY passed away on Thursday November 3, 2022 at his home.
He was born in Castile, NY on February 7, 1927 a son to the late Augustus A. and Irene (Blakeslee) Swyers.
Dub served proudly with the US Navy during World War II.
He was employed over 20 years with Elitsac Lumber in Castile prior to owning and operating the Pike Hardware Store in Pike for 10 years. After selling the hardware store he worked on his son Thomas’s farm in Perry, the Perry Vet Clinic and was a courier for the Bank of Castile.
He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Castile and also attended the First Congregational Church in Perry Center. A member of the Wallace-Jeffers American Legion Post #753 in Castile and the Castile Community Club.
Dub was an instructor for the New York State Hunter Safety program for over 30 years and a former Boy Scout Leader. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and carpentry.
He is survived by his wife: Sarah D. (DeGroff) whom he married on February 10, 1948, 2 daughters: Katie (Dale) Cooley of Perry, Maggie (Todd) Keller of Jacksonville, Fl., 2 sons: Thomas (Yvonne) Swyers of Perry, Peter (Marilyn) Swyers of Auburn, AL., sister: Doris Rutherford of Castile, brother: Kenneth (Linda) Swyers of Martinsville, VA., 15 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by a son: Michael Swyers who passed away in 2022, sister: Norma Pleger and brother Rodney Swyers.
A Celebration of Dub’s life will be announced at a later date.
