Edward N. James-Castile
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward James, age 79, who left
us after a brief illness.
Edward was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was marked
by service, community engagement, and a love for adventure. He was predeceased by
his parents, Ed and Lou James; his half-brother, George Ahl; and his mother-in-law,
Patricia Johns.
A proud Marine, Ed served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1965 to
1968, including service as a Vietnam Veteran. His dedication to his country was further
reflected through his membership in the American Legion Post 753 and as an Honor
Flight recipient, traveling on Mission 75 with Honor Flight Rochester.
Ed's passion extended beyond his military service; he cherished his Sunday motorcycle
club, enjoyed trips to Sturgis, and appreciated the camaraderie of his friends and fellow
riders.
He was a committed community member and wedding officiant, serving on the Board of
Education at Letchworth Central, coaching Little League baseball and softball, and
acting as a village trustee in Castile.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Donna; his four daughters, Erin Vogler (Adam), Darcy
Lyndaker (Justin), Jenny James (Jessica Snyder), and Mary Holtz (Steven); his
father-in-law, Donald Johns, and his cherished granddaughter, Olivia James Lyndaker.
His warmth, humor, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of Ed’s life will be held on Friday May 23rd with visitation from 11am-2pm at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home 98 North Main St. in Perry. An American Legion and Memorial service will follow at 2pm. Following the services at the funeral home a gathering will be held at the Wolf Creek Event Center 12 South Main St. in Castile.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to American Legion Post 753 or Honor Flight Rochester, two organizations close to Ed’s heart.
