Ernest D. "Ernie - Big-E" Olin, age 77, of Perry, passed away at his home surrounded by the love of his family.
Ernie was born in Warsaw, New York on September 2, 1938 a son of the late C. Everett and Vera (Gross) Olin.
Ernie was a machine equipment operator for the Town of Perry retiring in 1998.
He was a member of the Perry Center 1st Congregational Church, Perry Center Fire Department, where he was a former Chief. A member of the Wyoming County Firemen’s Association and New York State Fire Chief’s Association. A member of the Pembroke-Corfu-Darien Kiwanis Club where he was Kiwanian of the year in 2000 and received the Hixson Fellowship Award in 2002. Free and Accepted Masons Constellation Lodge #404 in Perry, a former Shriner where he was active in the Perry Shrine Car Club. He served as a voting custodian for Wyoming County and Perry Central School for many years. He enjoyed woodworking and had a passion for welding where he helped build the weight transfer sled used for area tractor pulls, and created many Christmas Light displays for his home, Perry Center and in Pike.
He is survived by his wife who he married on November 21, 1964 Bonita “Bonnie” (Adrian) Olin, a daughter: Michele (Martin) Diggins IV of Crab Orchard, TN, 3 grandchildren: Adrian (Micah) Holmes of Amherst, VA., Martin Diggins V of Crab Orchard, TN., and Melissa (George) Mills of Woodbridge, VA., 2 brothers: Jon (Linda) Olin of Perry, Russell (Marilyn) Olin of Henrietta, 2 sister-in-laws: Sharon (Merle) Webster of Perry, Betty Jean Whiting of Perry, an Uncle: Grant Gross of Filmore, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
No prior visitation.
A Celebration of Ernie’s Life will be held on Saturday June 18th at the Perry Center 1st Congregational Church at 1 P.M.
He will be laid to rest in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Perry.
