Howard C. Wood

Howard C. ”Woody” Wood, age 94 of Perry, NY passed away peacefully Saturday July 26th, 2025 at the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility in Warsaw where he had been residing.

He was born on January 8th, 1931 in Rochester, New York to the late George A. and Margaret E. (Grover) Wood.

Howard was a 1948 graduate of Livonia Central High School. He worked for GLF Stores (Agway Feed) in Attica, Churchville and Groveland prior to becoming the manager of the Perry Store. He went on into the banking business in 1964 where he was a loan officer and ending as a manager at M&T Bank in Perry from 1964-1994 and was the Mayor for the Village of Perry for 8 years.

Howard was a member of the Brick Presbyterian Church in Perry where he was an Elder, Deacon and a member of the church choir. A member of the Perry Rotary Club since 1977, where he was the former President in 1986, received 2 Paul Harris awards and a member of the Rotary Choir. A member of the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce, Constellation Lodge #404 of the Free and Accepted Masons in Perry joining in 1959, Damasus Temple of the Shriners Club Rochester, Perry Shrine Club where he was instrumental in getting the Shrine Club cars used in many area parades, member of the Silver Lake Country Club, and former Trustee and Chairman of the Planning Board for the Village of Perry

He enjoyed vegetable gardening, golfing, woodworking, wine making, square dancing, his cats and raising pheasants of all different varieties. An avid NY Yankees fan and follower of the Kelly’s Old Timers Band. He loved his home town of Perry where he put many hours into his community clubs and volunteering. He enjoyed times spent with family and friends.

Howard is survived by 3 daughters: Lynda (Robert) Spiegel of Pittsford, Peggy (Ronald) Jongsma of Spencerport, Katie (Scott) VanDuser of Perry, 1 son: George (Margery) Wood of Voorhees, NJ, sister: Kay Johantgen of Perkinsville, NY, 7 grandchildren: Michelle Spiegel, Mitchel Spiegel, Nicole Jongsma, Eric Jongsma, Adam Jongsma, Stephanie (Robert) Sheehan and Alisa Wood, 2 great grandchildren: Aiden and Hallie Sheehan, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 ½ years: B. Marjorie Wood who passed away in 2000 and sister: Alice May who passed away in 1956.

Family and friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9pm on Wednesday July 30th at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home 98 North Main St in Perry.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday July 31st at 3:00pm at the Brick Presbyterian Church 6 Church St. (corner of N. Main St. and Church St.) in Perry.

Howard will be laid to rest in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Livonia, New York.
