Joseph W. Hageman, age 87, of Perry, NY passed away on Monday October 31, 2022 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw.
He was born on October 1, 1935 in Buffalo, New York a son of the late William and Mary (Pico) Hageman.
Joe proudly served with the US Navy Air Reserves from 1952-1960. While in the service Joe saved 2 men from a fiery helicopter crash in New Jersey.
He was a painter at General Motors in Buffalo for over 30 years.
Joe was a member of the American Legion McKelton Post # 350 where he was active in their annual American Legion fishing derby, placing American Flags on veterans graves every Memorial Day, and driving in the Memorial Day parades in Perry, a member of Masonic Lodge in Buffalo and Perry Vets Club in Perry. He volunteered every year to ring the bell for the Salvation Army kettle drive. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, driving his lawnmower and tending to his gardens, woodworking, refinishing furniture and spending time with his family and always looking forward to his Sunday visits with his great nephews.
He is survived by his wife: Barbara (Gambino) Hageman whom he married on January 1, 2021, daughter: Michelle (Nick Stefaniak) Vanelli of Perry, brother: William “Bud” (Marilynn Hogg) Hageman of Lancaster, NY, 2 close nephews: Joseph (Natalie) Gambino of Perry, Kevin Drury of Perry, along with many other nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law: Nancy and Samuel Fatta.
Family and friends may call from 2-5pm on Monday November 7th at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, LLC. 98 N. Main St. in Perry where services will follow at 5pm.
