Karen VanArsdale, 67 of Leicester passed away on Thursday June 29, 2017 at her home.
Karen was born in Bradford, PA. on January 28, 1950 a daughter of Carolyn (Burrell) Maynard of Mt. Jewett, PA., and the late John Maynard.
Karen was a graduate of Letchworth Central School, Buffalo State College and Geneseo College where she earned her teaching degree.
She worked as a teachers aide for York Central School retiring in 2015. She also worked at the Art Gallery at the Genesee Country Museum.
She was involved with the Peace Corp. from 1972 thru 1974. She made and sold folk art at area crafts shows.
Karen enjoyed reading, gardening, and loved history especially the Civil War.
She is survived by 2 daughters: Abby (Dan) DeBolt of Livonia, Emily and (Rob) Derin of Mine Hill, NJ, a sister: Patricia (Norman) Klump of Enon, OH, brother: Marty (Natalie) Maynard of Mt. Jewett, PA., 4 grandchildren: Ellie and Audrey DeBolt and Charlie and John Derin, close friends: Nancy Wolcott of Leicester, Lesley Chippone of Leicester, Ed and Melissa Wolcott of Perry 8 nieces and nephews: Jen Klump, John Klump, Peter Hughes, Rob Randall, Maggie Robb, Sarah Avenali, Jake Maynard and Laura Smith, along with several great nieces and nephews.
Along with her father she is preceded in death by a son George VanArsdale who passed in 1979, a sister: Diane Randall who passed in 2014
An open house will be held on Sunday July 9 from 11am-3pm at Karen’s home 5802 Gibsonville Rd. in Leicester.
