Lucinda A. Parker

Our family and community were saddened to learn this week of the unexpected passing of Lucinda Ann “Cindy” Parker, 65, at her home in Perry, NY, on Monday, May 31, 2021. She was born March 25, 1956, to Hazel Luce Parker and the late Fletcher Parker.
Cindy was known for devoting a lifetime to unselfishly serving her community. Her career of teaching in the field of home, family, and consumer sciences began at Perry Central Schools followed earning her BA and MA degrees at SUNY College at Buffalo. After 34 years, she retired from teaching from the Warsaw School District. During her teaching career, she was an advisor for FHA and FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) organizations in the local schools and was an active advocate of FCCLA at the state and national levels. She made possible the involvement of her students and provided opportunities for them to develop their leadership skills through competitions at all these levels.
Cindy’s involvement as a volunteer carried over into many other activities; always dedicated herself to the job and was most sensitive to her responsibilities. One special involvement included serving as a 4-H Leader and promoter for about 50 years and serving many years and terms on Wyoming County-wide 4-H, Camp, County Fair, and Home committees. Her service included multiple terms of service on the Cooperative Extension Board of Directors that included serving as its Secretary and President.
As a lifelong member of the Brick Presbyterian Church, Cindy became a big part of all their activities. She was active in the music program since her school days, participating and organizing choir, bell choir, and ensemble presentations. Her love of music and serving her community also showed in her participation in the Rotary Show chorus for 48 years. Her many years as the Church’s Clerk of the Session has made her the contact person, and the one to get things done whether the need was for hiring and scheduling ministerial staff, dealing with levels of church governance, or completing church business within the community. Church fundraising and missions in the community always found Cindy helping to lead the effort.
Perhaps her biggest role was in her devotion to her family…from caring for the needs of her father before his death and then mother, Hazel Parker, and aunt, Ruth Parker, who both survive her, to always being there for her siblings and their children and grandchildren. She was sister of surviving siblings Eric (Peggy) Parker of Perry, with their children Nathan (Tammy) Parker, Erin (Frank Stewart) Parker, and Rachel (Tommy) Parker; Laurel (Howard) Hartley of Spring Texas, with children Matthew Hartley and Margo Hartley (of Perry), Kristin (Brian) Cox of Perry, their children Timothy (Ashley) Cox, Meghan (Will) Hayes, Gregory (Vivian) Cox, Wesley (Becky) Cox, and Eliza Cox, Calvin Parker of Perry and children Leah Parker, William Parker, and Jan Lawrence Parker, Beth (Sarah Fogler) Parker of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, and their children Parker Fogler and Calvin Fogler, Brian (Kathy) Parker of Perry, with their children Haley Parker and Abigail Parker along with 15 grand nieces and nephews also survive.
Calling hours are planned for Friday, June 11, 2021 at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, from 4 – 8 pm; and a memorial service will be held at the Brick Presbyterian Church at 11 AM on Saturday, June 12, 2021. Please consider memorials in Cindy’s name to the Brick Presbyterian Church of Perry, NY, or the Wyoming County 4-H program through the Cooperative Extension in Warsaw, NY.
