Raymond L. Caryl, age 90 of Attica, NY, passed away on Thursday April 16, 2026 at the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility in Warsaw. Ray was the only son of the late Frederick B. and Carol L. (Cook) Caryl. He grew up in Perry, NY, and was a graduate of Perry Central School, Class of 1954.

Ray honorably served this country in the United States Air Force from 1954-1962. Ray went on to work for General Motors in Tonawanda, NY, starting in 1964, when a man was recognized for his inherent intelligence and ability rather than a college degree. He studied and was certified in tool design. He earned promotions throughout his career, to include plant superintendent of the former GM foundry, and retired in 1991 as lead mechanical engineer of the GM Assembly Plant. After retirement, Ray worked 10 years as a consultant with Lauer-Manguso Associate Architects of Buffalo, NY.

Ray was active in his community, serving as Town of Sheldon assessor for several years in the 1970s.

He also served many years as a volunteer at the Attica Library and was a member of the Attica Historical Society. He and his wife supported numerous missionary families abroad as part of their membership in the Attica Baptist Church. He will also be remembered by his church family for his long service as an AWANA volunteer.

In addition to his parents, Ray is predeceased by two grandchildren: Joelle Luce and Neil “Braeden” Caryl, his sister: Jacqueline Blakemore and two brothers-in-law: Lester Woodworth and Terry Slane.

He is survived by his loving and resilient wife of 53 years: Nellie M. (Bennett) Caryl, two sons: Steven (Rose) Caryl of Bloomfield, New Mexico, David Caryl of Perry, NY, two adopted daughters: Donna (Thomas) Kibler and Darla (Ronald) DaBoldt both of Varysburg, NY, Step-daughter: Denise (Michael) Skrzypk of Java Center, NY, siblings: Barbara Woodworth of Warsaw, NY and Marsha Slane of Cloudcroft, New Mexico, special friends: Jorden (Katie) Gaudy of Attica, along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many other friends.

The family wishes to extend thanks to the staff at Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility, where Ray resided the last three years. Special thanks to staff members Kimberly Christensen and long-time family friend Hope Mansell.

There will be no prior visitation. A private family service will be held at a later date.

Ray will be laid to rest in Glenwood Cemetery in Perry, NY.
