Shirley L. Martin, 91 of Perry, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 8, 2018 at the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility in Warsaw where she had been residing.
Shirley was born in Rochester, NY, on January 20, 1927 a daughter to the late Thomas B. and Anna (Streline Yates) Steckel.
Shirley was a 1945 graduate of Gates-Chili High School. She worked for the former LoVerde’s Grocery Store in Perry where she worked in the office as well as being a homemaker..
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #497 in Perry for over 50 years. She loved to go shopping, cooking, baking, playing cards, winters spent in Florida, summers spent at the cottage in French River, Canada, and just being the best mom and grandma.
She is survived by 4 children: Diane (Charles) Higgins of Kissimmee, Fl., Denise (Allen) Derisley of Albion, Mark (Bonnie) Martin of Gloucester, VA., and Darlene (Joe Chaapel) Martin of Perry, 5 grandchildren: Donald (Jennifer) Martin, Thomas (Amanda) Martin, David (Jenell Kelly) McElver, Jonathan (Shanda) McElver and Katelyn Swede, 4 great grandchildren:Alana and Kassidy Martin and Natalie and Riley McElver, along with 3 nieces and a nephew.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband: Donald B. Martin who passed away in 1986 and sisters Dottie Mollendorf and Jane DeSimone
Friends are invited to call on Saturday March 10, 2018 from 11am to 1 PM at Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, LLC, 98 North Main Street Perry, New York where services will follow at 1pm.
She will be laid to rest in the Reservation Cemetery in Castile.
(In lieu of flowers) Memorials may be made to the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 497 C/O Carol Preen 19 Chestnut St. Perry, NY 14530 or to the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Home activities fund 400 N. Main St. Warsaw, New York 14569.
