Virginia W. “Ginny” Van Slyke, age 82, of Pike, passed away on Monday September 15th at the Conesus Lake Nursing Home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Warsaw, New York on April 30, 1943, a daughter to the late Lewis E. and Laura (Wheaton) Wing.
Ginny was a graduate of Letchworth Central High School Class of 1961 and received Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from Buffalo State College in 1965.
She was a Home Economics teacher at Alexander High School before transferring to Letchworth Central School where she worked for many years in the Resource Room. In the final years of her career, she taught quilting in the Home Economics classes before retiring.
Ginny was involved in continuing Education Classes held at the Wyoming County Cooperative Extension, volunteered at the Wyoming County Fair, and Angel Action. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, homemaking and loved being a farm wife, mom, and grandma.
She is survived by 1 daughter: Kelly (Dan) Matteson of Reno, NV, 2 sons: Kevin (Michelle) Van Slyke of Chapel Hill, TN, Ken (Tonya) Van Slyke of Pike, sister: Beth L. Couch of Tucson, AZ., brother: Stephen L. Wing of Pike, 7 grandchildren: Hope and Cole Matteson, Renee (Rourke Taylor) Van Slyke, Tim (Kenadi) Van Slyke, Grace (James) McGregor, Kyle and Kolby Van Slyke, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Along with her parents Ginny is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years: Gary K. Van Slyke who passed away in 2017, brothers: LTC Richard L. Wing, and Kenneth E. Wing.
Family and friends may call from 2:00-4:00, 6:00-8:00 pm on October 9 at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home 98 North Main St. in Perry.
Funeral services will be held on October 10 at 1:00 pm.
Ginny will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery in Pike.
