Zygmund A. Swider

History:
Zygmund A. Swider, 87, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2013 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. “Ziggy” called Perry home for nearly 70 years. He then resided in Canandaigua from 2000 until 2010 when he moved to Cape Cod, MA where he had summered since 1980.

After serving in World War II, he was offered a military career playing in the Army Band but instead returned to study under the G.I. Bill at Sampson Naval Base, Cornell University and Geneseo State Teacher’s College. He taught 5th and 6th grade classes in Perry Central School and Robert Morris School in Batavia. After teaching 7th and 8th grade science in Pavilion, he became the guidance counselor there until he retired in 1983.

Survived By:
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Theresa Swider, of West Harwich, MA, his daughter, Sylvia Swider Hanlon and son-in-law, John D. Hanlon of Canandaigua, his son, Gary J. Swider and daughter-in-law, Judy F. Swider of Middlesex, NY, and three grandchildren; Colin R. Swider of Winnepeg, MB, Canada, Kieran J. Hanlon of Rochester, NY and Jessen E. Swider of Middlesex, NY.

Visitation:
The Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, 98 Main Street, Perry, NY will host calling hours on Monday, December 9, 2013 from 3 to 7 PM.

Services:
A funeral Mass will be said at 11 AM on December 10, 2013 at St. Isidore’s Parish Church, 71 Leicester Street, Perry, NY.

Burial:
Burial will be in the St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery in Perry

Memorials:
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Zig’s name to Hope Health Hospice, 765 Attucks Way, Hyannis, MA 02601
